After a very pleasant 6 hour train ride, we are in Kansas City. The ride was pleasant for Dana because he sat alone, put in his ear plugs, and read a book. It was pleasant for me because I sat next to a lovely lady named Rose, turns out we had a lot in common, so I shared my gummy bears with her and now we are friends. She was meeting her friend Henry in KC, and they are going on a senior tour in Canada. She is retiring in 60 days (not that she’s counting). I told her to take up pickleball and get an e-bike.
The Kansas City train station is absolutely beautiful – original art deco. But it’s right next to the soccer stadium, so it was crazy busy, and we were reprimanded for having our bikes in there.
So it turns out KC is a beautiful city, and a beautiful biking city IF you like hills. Which I do not. But we made it the three miles to the hotel, and now we are going to Uber to Haywards BBQ, which was recommended to me by my orthopedic surgeon.
Tomorrow we will hit the trail. It will be a 32-mile day, and flat (supposedly) after we get out of KC. Let’s see what happens.
I am enclosing pics of the bikes (because Dana likes pics of bikes). One in the St. Louis station, one in our KC hotel room, because he REALLY likes pics of bikes in hotel rooms.
